As a member of the United Nations Universal Periodic Review Coalition, we urged the United States to accept a United Nations Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Recommendation to address human rights abuses and improve access to services for sex workers. This Recommendation 86 was accepted by the United States, a significant accomplishment for the sex worker rights’ movement. For the first time ever, the US federal government has officially condemned violence and discrimination against sex workers. Our group was included as one of the first in the report and Harold Koh, the facilitator of the UPR process, called our organizing efforts a “case study” and quoted some of our materials during the White House Presentation for the acceptance of the recommendation.
